From Farm to Market: The Story of Rafter 8 Market Farm

Long before there was a market storefront, coffee bar dream, or vendor products, there was simply a family with a dream, a piece of land, and a desire to build something meaningful.

Rafter 8 Market Farm started with a deep belief that food should be raised differently, with care, integrity, hard work, and respect for both the animals and the land. What began as a small farming journey slowly grew into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

Like many farm families, we learned quickly that farming isn’t just a job. It’s a lifestyle built on early mornings, late nights, long seasons, and complete dependence on God’s provision through every step.

There were seasons of growth.

Seasons of learning.

Seasons of rebuilding.

And seasons where faith carried us farther than certainty ever could.

Through it all, one thing stayed the same: our desire to raise quality food and serve people well.

At Rafter 8 Market Farm, we focus on raising pasture-raised pork, poultry, fresh eggs, and seasonal produce in a way that reflects stewardship and transparency. We believe people deserve to know where their food comes from and how it was raised.

For us, farming isn’t about cutting corners or chasing trends. It’s about returning to the basics:

  • Honest food

  • Honest work

  • Healthy soil

  • Healthy animals

  • And strong community relationships

Over time, something unexpected happened. Customers didn’t just want to buy food.

They wanted connection.

They wanted to visit the farm, ask questions, hear stories, and become part of the process. Families began caring more about local food, small farms, and supporting businesses they could trust.

That support planted the seed for something new.

The Barn & Basket Market was born out of the desire to bridge the gap between farm and community. We wanted a place where people could shop local year-round, support multiple small businesses, enjoy fresh food and coffee, and gather together in a welcoming atmosphere.

What started in the pasture eventually led us to the market.

Today, Rafter 8 Market Farm remains the foundation of everything we do. The lessons we’ve learned from farming shape the values behind the market:

  • Faith before fear

  • Family before hustle

  • Quality before convenience

  • Community over competition

We know firsthand the sacrifices local farmers and makers pour into their work. That’s why supporting small businesses is such an important part of our mission.

Every package of pork, every dozen eggs, every fresh-picked vegetable, and every handmade product on our shelves represents real people, real labor, and real stories.

And while we’re proud of how far things have come, we still believe this is only the beginning.

Our prayer is that Rafter 8 Market Farm and The Barn & Basket Market continue growing into places that feed people physically, spiritually, and relationally...reminding others that simple things done with purpose still matter.

Thank you for supporting local farms.

Thank you for believing in family businesses.

And thank you for walking this journey with us.

From our farm to your table.
